Sadaqah Jariyah: The Gift That Keeps Giving

As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuhu,

Your MCM family is here to remind you of something beautiful.
We pray you’re in the best of health and imaan.

These days, we hear a lot about investment—in money, time, education, and our future. But what about your real future—the one that begins after you leave this world?

Let’s talk about something powerful and eternal:
Sadaqah Jariyah – ongoing charity that rewards you even after you’ve passed.

In this post, we’ll reflect on 5 special types of charity that continue to benefit you in the grave and beyond. Ready? Let’s begin.

A Reminder from the Qur’an

Let’s reflect on this powerful verse from Surah Aal-Imran (3:185):

“Every soul will taste death. And you will only be given your full reward on the Day of Judgment. Whoever is saved from the Fire and admitted into Paradise has truly succeeded. This worldly life is nothing but a temporary illusion.”

SubhanAllah.
This verse beautifully reminds us that no matter how successful or wealthy we become in this world, it’s all temporary. What stays with us is the good we leave behind—especially the good that keeps helping others even after we’re gone.

A Beautiful Hadith on Everlasting Deeds

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Seven deeds of a servant continue to bring reward after death while he is in his grave: teaching knowledge, constructing a canal, digging a well, planting a date palm tree, building a mosque, handing down a written copy of the Qur’an, and leaving behind a righteous child who makes du’a for him.”

These acts are simple, yet incredibly impactful. They are not limited to scholars or wealthy people—anyone can take part, including you.

Why We Need to Think About This Now

Death is not a topic we like to think about—but we all know someone who passed unexpectedly. A loved one. A friend. Maybe even someone very young.

So, how do we prepare?

By building something that outlives us.
By giving in ways that keep giving.
That’s the beauty of Sadaqah Jariyah.

While we’re planning careers, vacations, or retirement, let’s not forget to plan for the akhirah—our forever home.

5 Types of Charity That Keep Rewarding You

Let’s explore these life-giving acts, one by one:

1. Teaching Beneficial Knowledge

Whether it’s Islamic teachings, reading Qur’an, or practical life skills—if someone benefits from your teaching, and passes it on, the rewards keep multiplying.

2. Constructing a Canal

Helping build a source of water—like a canal or water supply system—can benefit entire communities. Imagine how many lives you can touch with this act!

3. Digging a Well

A well can provide clean water for years to people, animals, and crops. Every drop brings you reward—even after you’re gone.

4. Planting a Date Palm Tree (or any useful tree)

Trees provide shade, fruit, shelter, and oxygen. Anyone—man, woman, child—can plant a tree and earn ongoing reward.

5. Building a Mosque

Every prayer, every lesson, every recitation that happens inside a mosque brings reward to those who helped build it.

What You Can Do This Week

Start small. This week, try this:

  • Choose one of the 5 deeds
  • Write it down in your journal or planner
  • Make a sincere intention to do it—even if it’s later this year

To help you get started, we’ve created a simple infographic you can share with your family, friends, or WhatsApp groups.

Imagine someone planting a tree because of your share…
Or someone giving a Qur’an…
Or someone supporting a mosque…

Every action leads to a ripple of rewards—for you.

Final Reflections

Dear brothers and sisters,

This life is a beautiful gift—but also a test. We never know which day is our last.
But what we leave behind can live on forever.

Sadaqah Jariyah is your opportunity to build something that lasts beyond this world.
You don’t have to do everything. Just start with one small, sincere act.

Share a piece of knowledge
Plant a tree
Gift a Qur’an
Teach your child a du’a

May Allah accept your efforts, increase you in goodness, and grant you the highest levels of Jannah. Ameen.
