Iman and Islam explained in this article

Iman and Islam are so closely related that they are the basis for the whole Muslim faith. To be precise, Iman is “faith” or “belief,” which means feeling absolutely sure about God’s oneness (Allah), His prophets, His sacred words, the Doomsday, and the divine plan.

While Islam is the surrender to the will of God. It is the application of Iman in daily life; this is a broad umbrella term that covers various beliefs and practices done in the name of the religion.

Acquiring a solid Iman and Islam is a long journey of spiritual growth and self-discovery. Learning the deep meaning of Islamic teachings, rigorous contemplation, and the wisdom to live a life conforming to divine direction are the three most important aspects of building a solid foundation of Iman and Islam.

Key Pillars of Iman:

The very foundation of Iman is the belief in the six fundamental articles of faith:

  1. Belief in Allah: To begin with, recognising the oneness and the sovereignty of God, as well as seeing Him as the Maker and the Sustainer of the universe, is necessary.
  2. Belief in Angels: This includes the belief that angels are the messengers of God and the executors of His commands.
  3. Belief in the Divine Books: Furthermore, all divine holy books, like the Quran, the Torah, the Gospel, and the Psalms, are of divine origin and should be respected as such.
  4. Belief in the Prophets: Whereas the God’s messengers’ prophecies are to be validated by the believers, it is the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who is acknowledged as the final and seal of all the prophets.
  5. Belief in the Day of Judgement: Moreover, the issue in question is the Day of Judgement, i.e., the day on which each individual will be held accountable for what they have done.
  6. Belief in Divine Decree: Moreover, everything, be it good or bad, follows the laws of God and has His absolute permission in the universe.

Cultivating a Strong Iman:

As a matter of fact, the formation of Iman is a nonstop trial and error; thus, following it with stubbornness is a must. Here are certain key exercises that may assist you:

  • Regular Prayer (Salah): The act of worship that is fundamental in Islam is prayer. It defines the direct relationship with God and cultivates a sense of submission and humility to Him.
  • Recitation of the Quran: The recitation, understanding, and reflection on the Quran are the activities that one can do to deepen the spiritual bond with God and to enhance Iman.
  • Dhikr (Remembrance of God): In the same way, involvement in the praise and recitation of the names of God and the personal gratitudes is a way to experience closeness to God.
  • Seeking Knowledge: Exposure to the teachings of Islam through books, lectures, and discussions with fellow scholars creates a better understanding and faith.
  • Good Deeds: Giving a helping hand, charity, and humility to the world adds up to one’s Iman and thus brings them closer to God.
  • Reflection and Introspection: Meditation upon the good and the bad acts in the physical actions, the spiritual thoughts, and the mental motives turns out to be the most straight way of launching a self-improvement process, and at the same time, strengthens the inner resolve to stick to the wisdom path.

Islam: The Practical Application of Iman

This concrete manifestation of the belief in Iman is what Islam is in daily life. It is a set of beliefs and practices that are wide-ranging and diverse, including:
